Job Title: RN Flex Nurse
Department: Patient Care and Nursing
Reports to: VP Patient Care and Nursing
Classification: Less than 40 hours 2 week pay period/non benefited
Hours: May vary but will include weekends, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

JOB SUMMARY
Provides high quality, cost effective professional nursing services to physicians, appropriate customer groups, and patients presenting to the Emergency Room, the inpatient and various outpatient areas. Participates in the ongoing assessment, treatment, and education of patients and supports and communicates with patients, patient's family, medical staff, and other appropriate persons. Maintains accurate and adequate documentation of nursing services provided.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
1. Initiates and contributes to plan of care and documents accordingly.
2. Thoroughly completes all required documentation. Signs off any incomplete records
    within 24 hours of notification. Evaluates and records patient response to
    treatment plan.
3. Prioritizes work, is flexible and able to adjust priorities to complete patient
     assignment.
4. Provides direct, high quality service to physicians. Engages in clear, concise
    communication with physician to assist in managing patient care. Responds
    promptly and accurately to physician directions and instructions, and communicates
    in a timely manner all significant changes in patient condition. Notifies physician
    appropriately of patient lab/x-ray results. Available for physician rounds if requested.
5. Refers patient to available resources and other departments as appropriate.
6. Accepts accountability and responsibility for own decision making.
7. Is available to co-workers to assist in completion of patient care. Assists with
    transfer to help expedite patient care.
8. Completes generic and medical skills checklist by end of orientation and updates
    as necessary.
9. Consults policy/procedure manuals before performing a new or unfamiliar
    procedure. Keeps informed of changes in policies/procedures. Reads/reviews
    Multiple Injury Management manual.
10. Fosters safety awareness, injury prevention and risk management in all aspects
     of performance.
11. Assists in the development of indicators, thresholds, study methods, and data
      collection in support of the hospital's Performance Improvement initiative.
12. Participates in chart review through committee meeting structure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse
  licensure from Idaho.
-Prefer 2 years medical/surgical experience. Computer aptitude or willingness to learn.
-Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for
  Staff RN position.
-Excellent oral and written comprehension and expression.
-Ability and willingness to work with patients’ growth and development needs
   particularly related to the age of patients in Nursing.
-Ability to manage a fluctuating work environment related to changing patient needs,
  including work with patients with acute, chronic, and complex disease processes,
  and those who are dying.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Risk of exposure to: Blood & bodily fluids , Odors, Chemicals, Disease ,
TB (to require mask) , Mechanical/Electrical, Air borne organisms

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Continuous standing, walking, bending/stooping, kneeling, pushing/pulling objects
on rollers/wheels, squatting, twisting/turning from waist, moving objects horizontally (left/right) - 30lbs, handling (holding, grasping, working with hands), fingering
(pinching, picking, working with fingers). Continuous need for feeling (size, shape, temperature, texture by finger receptors), color vision (identify and distinguish color), sense of smell and sense of taste. Continuous need to hear and talk in quiet surroundings. Frequent moving objects vertically (up & down) 15 lbs.
Frequent need for vision –far acuity (corrected vision at 20 ft or more), vision-near
acuity (corrected vision at 20 inches or less), depth perception (judge 3 dimensions, distance & space), field of vision (see up, down, left, right while eyes are fixed).
