The stated mission of the Center for Health Promotion is to improve the
health of our community through education and screenings for disease.
The education function is based on community lectures and discussions,
small group workshops, including various support groups, and larger
community conferences. Emphasis is placed on supporting healthy life
style change. With few exceptions, such as classes for first aid and
CPR, presentations are free.
Also without charge are the health screenings that are done for skin and
prostate cancer, hypertension, diabetes, hearing, and depression. We
have been especially aware of and have presented many talks on
understanding stress and stress management. Examples of other programs,
among many, concern mental health, relationships, injury prevention,
healthy nutrition, childbirth education, tobacco cessation, various
disease states, cooking classes, and exercise trainings.
